August 2024 update: Big News!

2024-08-01

First, we are delighted to announce that Fall 2024 is the 15 year anniversary of Constellations! What excellent timing it is, because this year we are also making some big changes to the journal and its operations:

I. We are rebranding, starting with a new logo! The design is still in the works, but we are very excited by the early drafts. Once the logo has been finalised, we will get to work on a new banner for the site, related materials for social media promotion, and even cover art for future issues of the journal.

This brings us to our first big opportunity: If any of our readers have worked in graphic design, we would love some more help with this project. Contact us at constellations.journal@ualberta.ca if you are interested. Compensation will be discussed directly with candidates. We would prefer this opportunity be taken on by a fellow student. [EDIT: we are no longer in need of new candidates. Thanks!]

II. We are restructuring and expanding our team! You may notice our Editorial Team has been updated with new titles, as well as bios for each member. Helen and Jay will continue on this year as our Senior Editors, with respective focus on Internal and External affairs. In addition to this, we will be recruiting two new Junior Editors this coming year: one in the Fall, and one in the Winter. The application form for this position will be posted very soon.

III. Submissions for the Fall 2024 issue are now open! They will close again on 7 October, when the review phase begins. We are hoping to run a tighter ship this year regarding publication schedule; authors and reviewers should make sure they keep an eye on deadlines so they don't miss out on opportunities to contribute.

IV. We are looking for reviewers! Among all the other changes being made, we are updating our review process. We will soon be releasing a new form for reviewers to sign up with us, as well as a form for previous reviewers to indicate their interest in remaining on our active reviewer list. A new reviewer guidebook is being drafted, which will be sent out to all reviewers on our active list, and there will be a new review template for submitting reviewer feedback.

V. Finally, we at Constellations would like to offer our gratitude to the History, Classics, and Religious Studies Undergraduate Society. The wonderful executive team over at HCRUS has been invaluable in our efforts to establish a more active presence here on campus, from allowing us to use their office to creating a new position on their executive team for a Constellations Liaison. We are so happy to be a part of their community, and you can expect to see us collaborating much more in the coming days.

It's going to be an exciting year in HCR! We look forward to being a part of it with you.

Cheers,

Jay & Helen
