Abstract

Discusses Greve's immigration to Canada and his decision to Anglicize his name amidst anti-German sentiment in the years during and after World War I: "[He] was taken up as a figure of the 'new Canadian'...the 'preferred' European immigrant 'assimilated' to 'British civilization'. Greve used his newfound status not only to advance his own career but to argue on behalf of immigrants from the non-preferred nations of Central Europe."
