Author Guidelines

Economics Student Inquiry (ESI) accepts original research conducted as part of a 300-level or higher course at the University of Alberta that has not been previously published elsewhere.

We welcome submissions from 300- and 400-level undergraduate courses, papers based on 500- and 600-level graduate courses, and papers from ECON 999. Authors must be undergraduate or graduate students when submitting their research.

To ensure consistent high-quality economic writing across all issues, ESI only accepts papers with a minimum grade of A-. If the paper received a percentage grade instead of a letter grade, authors are required to submit their course outline for verification that their percentage grade equates to a probable A- or above.

Authors are limited to one article per issue.

All submissions must align with ESI's aims and scope to be considered for publication. Authors must include the following elements in their papers: title, abstract, keywords, introduction, main text, conclusion, and references. Formatting requirements include Times New Roman, 12pt font, and double-spacing.

Authors are strongly encouraged to verify their word count before submitting their papers. All relevant information—including author details, in-text citations, charts, tables, and references—must adhere to the Canadian Journal of Economics Style Guide.
