The Journal of Hebrew Scriptures (JHS) is an internationally peer-reviewed, open-access journal established in 1996, to foster scholarly research on the Hebrew Bible, ancient Israel’s history, and cognate fields of study.
Article manuscripts submitted to JHS should be sent to the editors in electronic form, preferably as attachments and in MS-Word format. If possible, please attach also a pdf version of the text. Submission of a hard copy of the article is optional. Submissions should include a short abstract of the article.
For all abbreviations and scholarly references, please follow the SBL Handbook of Style (2d edition).
When refering to page ranges, biblical chapters and verses, or the like, please use en-dashes between numbers (e.g., 93–111; Num 6:24–26; cols. 1–3; etc.).
Authors of accepted manuscripts assign to the Journal of Hebrew Scriptures (JHS) the right to publish the text both electronically and in any other format and to make it available permanently in an electronic archive.
After reviewing article proofs, authors must send a signed copy of the publication agreement to the general editor of JHS. A scanned copy of the agreement, sent via e-mail, is acceptable. By sending the publication agreement, the author accepts the proofs s/he has received.
Authors may re-publish their articles, in whole or in part, provided that they acknowledge in subsequent publications that the research was first published in JHS, and that they provide full bibliographic reference to the research originally published in JHS.
