Abstract

Using the example of the reconstructed history of one adolescent and his intense enthusiasm for the story Highlander (which is told in movies, novelizations, television programs and card games), this article explores questions of what we may and may not understand about what makes a story compelling to a particular reader. It also investigates appropriate stances for teachers and librarians who work with adolescent readers.
