Exploring Information Worlds in a Disadvantaged Community: A UK Perspective

Abstract

This study explored the everyday information behaviour (IB) of 21 people living on a disadvantaged housing project in the UK. The findings suggest that affective aspects of IB are key, that trust is vital and that the term ‘information’ can be a semantic barrier. The study further proposes ways to enable information access.

Cette étude a exploré les comportements informationnels (CI) quotidiens de 21 individus vivant dans un grand ensemble défavorisé du Royaume-Uni. Les résultats suggèrent que les aspects affectifs sont la clé des CI, que la confiance est essentielle et que le terme « information » peut être une barrière sémantique. Cette étude propose également des moyens pour faciliter l’accès à l’information.
