Information Practices Evolving Over Time: Cases from the Young Parent Study

Abstract

Although longitudinal research into human
information practices is uncommon, it can provide
deep insight into the ways information practices
evolve over time. Through discussion of cases from an
ethnographic study of early-age parents, this paper
theorizes interactions among time, participants,
settings, and events that result in changes to
information practices.

La recherche longitudinale sur les pratiques
informationnelles humaines est peu commune, mais
elle peut fournir des aperçus profonds sur l’évolution
dans le temps des pratiques informationnelles. Par la
discussion de cas provenant d’une étude
ethnographique de jeunes parents, cette étude
théorise les interactions entre temps, participants,
installations, et les événements qui entraînent des
changements dans les pratiques informationnelles.
