Information Practices in the Mobile Knowledge Work Context

Abstract

This paper reports theoretical and empirical findings
from an exploratory study aimed at understanding
mobile knowledge workers' information practices.
Semi-structured interviews with sixteen mobile
knowledge workers suggest the creative ways that this
demographic leverages and enacts ad hoc, 'emergent'
assemblages of technology in order to deal with the
various spatial, temporal, social, and organizational
contingencies characterizing their work arrangements.

Cette étude présente les résultats théoriques et
empiriques d’une étude exploratoire visant à mieux
comprendre les pratiques informationnelles des
travailleurs du savoir mobiles. Les entretiens semistructurés
avec seize travailleurs du savoir mobiles
suggèrent quels moyens créatifs cet échantillon
démographique permettent de faire apparaître et fait
jouer ad hoc des assemblages « émergents » de
technologie afin de faire face aux diverses
contingences spatiales, temporelles, sociales et
organisationnelles qui caractérisent leurs modalités
de travail.
