About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Vertebrate Anatomy Morphology Palaeontology is an open access journal for peer-reviewed scholarly articles on all aspects of anatomy and more broadly morphology of fossil and living vertebrates. Articles such as those detailing the osteology of living vertebrates, new species of fossil vertebrates, or phylogenetic studies using morphological features are welcome.

Open Access

We do not charge any fees whatsoever, for anything. Authors retain copyright of their own works and may distribute them freely to everyone. Anyone may download pdfs from this journal for free. Peer Review Process

Peer Review Policy: All scientific articles published are peer-reviewed by two or more experts in the field. Exceptions to peer review, such as opinion pieces, clearly indicate on the individual article that they were not peer-reviewed.

This journal is a peer-reviewed scientific journal. Each submission will first be examined by a Senior Editor to determine its relevance to the journal. If the submission is appropriate, it will be sent to an Associate Editor who will guide it through the review process. Each article will have at least two reviewers assigned. Reviewers may remain anonymous if they wish.

AUTHORS MUST SUBMIT NAMES OF AT LEAST THREE POTENTIAL REVIEWERS at the time of submission.

Each submission will be evaluated for its scientific merit, contribution to the field, and originality. All submissions must attain a high standard of English (grammar and style). We suggest authors access the help of professional English-language editors where necessary.

Supplemental Data

This journal does not support supplemental data. If the information is important, it should be included in the article, or added at the end in the form of appendices.

Publication Frequency

This journal is published on a continuous schedule.

Papers will be published on-line as they are accepted after final layout, copy-editing and proof-reading have been completed.

Publication date for each article will be the date it is published on-line, and this publication date will be embedded in the pdf (to conform with the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature).

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Impact Factor

A Journal Impact Factor (JIF) may not reflect the quality of the paper (for example, see here). We have chosen not to apply for an JIF for Vertebrate Anatomy Morphology Palaeontology.

ICZN - new names

Vertebrate Anatomy Morphology Palaeontology meets the requirements of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (amendments of 2012, article 8.5)  as an electronically issued and distributed work in that it has been issued after 2011, the date of publication of each article is stated in the article itself, and it has a unique ISSN. Individual scientific names and acts will be registered in the Official Register of Zoological Nomenclature (ZooBank), either by the authors or the editor.
