Hot-linking bibliographical references

In this journal, we have made a special effort since the beginning in 2013 to make all bibliography references hot-linked. That is, references include, where possible, a DOI or URL link to the original document. I believe this is an important technical advance in publishing technology, that greatly serves the reader, and potentially deepens scholars' engagement with original sources and research documents. I am pleased to see today that ISIS, the premier journal of the history of science, has introduced this practice too.
