Common Issues and Uncommon Solutions to Cataloguing Comic Books in Libraries

Comic books have gained popularity in recent years and as such libraries (academic or public) have been making efforts to maintain comic book collection to serve the patron needs. Since comic books are different than traditional resources in nature, cataloguing them have been a pain for most librarians. This paper aims to highlight the common issues faced by libraries in cataloguing comics because of a lack standardized metadata schema and explores a variety of solutions/projects proposed in effort to organize and maintain the collection in brief with the care it deserves.
Problèmes communs et solutions singulières pour le catalogage des bandes dessinées dans les bibliothèques
Résumé
Les bandes dessinées ont gagné en popularité au cours des dernières années et les bibliothèques (académiques ou publiques) ont donc fait des efforts afin de maintenir une collection de bandes dessinées pour répondre aux besoins des usagers. Puisque les bandes dessinées sont d'une nature différente que les ressources traditionnelles, les cataloguer a été une tâche difficile pour la plupart des bibliothécaires. Cet article vise à souligner les problèmes communs rencontrés par les bibliothèques pendant le catalogage des bandes dessinées en raison d'un manque de standardisation des schémas de métadonnées et explore une variété de solutions et projets proposés dans le but d'organiser et de maintenir la collection avec l'attention qu'elle mérite.
