About the Journal

Topophilia: The Human Geography and Planning Student Journal is a showcase of student work and research on topics surrounding human interaction with(in) urban and regional places. As a collection of works stemming from course assignments as well as personal interest, including academic papers, posters, presentations, and photos, the journal aims to not only to showcase high quality content, but to also create opportunities for discourse around a shared love of places through the dissemination of information, ideas, and insights with the hope of cultivating the interests of fellow students and the greater community.  It will be published once per regular school year.

The journal is also digitally published on a rolling basis through the University of Alberta Libraries with Open Journal Systems (OJS). OJS is an open-access platform that will ensure your paper is peer-reviewed, permanently archived, and has a DOI for easy online sharing. The journal accepts undergraduate and graduate academic work from 200-level or higher courses (from any discipline) with a grade of A- (80%) or higher. Publication in Topophilia will build your resume, give you experience in writing for academic journals, and allow you to share your work beyond the classroom.
