HCRUS & Constellations present: the 2025 Undergraduate Research Conference

2025-10-01

HCRUS and Constellations are delighted to announce that submissions are open now for the 2025 Undergraduate Research Conference. This is a wonderful opportunity to flex you research, network with peers, and practise skills in academic presentation.

The conference will be held on 22-23 November, 2025, here at the University of Alberta. Our conference is entirely organised and hosted by students, featuring panels of undergraduate presenters, keynote speakers from grad students and faculty, and round table discussions intended to foster connection and community between like-minded young scholars. Our panels will focus on a variety of disciplines within the purview of History, Classics, and Religious Studies, and related fields. Presenters are welcome from all departments, so long as the research they present is relevant to these disciplines.

We will also, for the first time, be welcoming submissions from students at other universities! We have already made connections at Macewan and the University of Saskatchewan, and have extended our submissions portal to them. This is an exciting opportunity to expand our student community to peers beyond our own institution, and we couldn't be happier to be spearheading this effort.

Students interested in presenting can find more information on our conference website, including links to the form for submission, which itself includes a detailed overview of the process and expectations. All that is required to submit is an abstract; you will not need to provide a paper or script. This does mean that you can present research that is not in the form of a completed paper! So long as you can provide an abstract on the project, complete with subject, thesis, sources, methodologies, and conclusions, we are happy to review it. If writing an abstract is a daunting prospect for you, you're in luck! We will be hosting an Abstract Writing Workshop on Tuesday, 14 October, at 5pm in Tory 2-32. Attendees are encouraged to bring their work for guidance on writing or strengthening their abstract.

Submissions will be open from Wednesday, 1 October, until Friday, 24 October.

Following this, the abstracts will be reviewed in a blind panel of student peers, and invitations will be sent to the selected presenters on 1 November. We hope that students not interested in presenting will consider attending. This conference is a wonderful way to build connections in your field and learn all about the fascinating research happening in your academic community.

More information regarding the conference will be shared as it is released. Questions and concerns regarding the conference can be directed to our Senior Editor External and conference organiser, Jay MacDaniel-Streibel, at jstreibe@ualberta.ca, or via the HCRUS Discord

We hope to see you in November!

Cheers,

Jay, Senior Editor External
