Introduction to the New Manager and VP and Vol.7 Call for Reviewers and Submissions

2022-02-11

Hello everyone!

Allow me to introduce myself: my name is Jewel Chidiebere (she/her) and I am your new Journal Manager for INvoke and VP Mentorship and Academic Journal for SUSA. I’m in my first year of the Sociology program and am very excited to be taking on this position.

As some of you already know, Vol. 7 of INVOKE was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and fell into hiatus. Our goal for this semester is to finish up the great work that Angéle Chenard and Freya Hammond-Thrasher, our previous journal managers, and all the peer reviewers have done and publish this volume in April 2022. INVOKE will be accepting new or additional submissions for this volume; the manuscripts being published are from both the Winter 2020-Winter 2022 call for submissions.

As I am writing this in February I am also asking for submissions that have a focus on BIPOC History and subjects as a highlight in the next volume.

As for vol. 7, submissions opened November 15, 2020. I still plan on publishing those submissions as well as any new ones, while leaving time for each to be reviewed and edited before the deadline. The deadline will be to follow but expect it to be some time in April. Make sure when you’re submitting to check the Submissions Page under the About section of the INvoke site for a checklist and tips for your manuscripts.

I also wanted to promote that SUSA has started a discord for sociology students! Hopefully, some of you will consider joining and using it as a way to connect with others in the department despite the pandemic. Use this link to join: https://discord.gg/Wdt2zyx.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns or queries you might have at jchidieb@ualberta.ca

Stay safe everyone,

Jewel
