Author Biography

Anne Malena, University of Alberta

Anne Malena is a literary translator and Professor of French and Translation Studies in the department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta. She has published French translations of two novels by Kristjana Gunnars (La Maraude, Leméac 1995, which was nominated for the Governor General Literary Award in Translation, and Degré Zéro, Leméac 1998) as well as several short stories and poems. She was an invited artist at the First Banff International Translation Centre in 2003, an unforgettable experience! She is also the author of The Negotiated Self: The Dynamics of Identity in Francophone Caribbean Narrative (New York: Peter Lang, 1998), the editor of two special TTR (Traduction, Terminologie, Rédaction)issues on translation (Les Antilles en traduction / The Caribbean in Translation (XIII.2 (2000))and Traduction et (im)migration / Translation and (Im)migration (XVI.2 (2003) and has published articles on Caribbean fiction and the History of Translation in Louisiana. Being a professor regretfully doesn’t leave her much time to translate but she’s now looking for a publisher for her English translation of a short story collection by her Québécois colleague, Claudine Potvin, entitled Pornographies.
