Abstract

This is the first Ottoman to English translation of Nigar Hanim's short story, "The Blizzard". In this story, Nigar Hanim, a prominent ninteenth-century Ottoman woman writer, editor, and musician brings together Sufi undertones, Romantic symbols to express her suffering.

Author Biography

Ici Vanwesenbeeck, State University of New York Fredonia

Ici Vanwesenbeek works at the State University of New York Fredonia as a literature professor where she teaches courses in world literature and international education. Her current research is on Nigâr Hanım's songs, poems, and epistolary novel The Phases of Love. She has recently completed the transcription of The Phases of Love, which will be published in modern Turkish in the Fall of 2022.
