Language & Literacy (L&L) is the peer-reviewed journal of the Language and Literacy Researchers of Canada (LLRC) https://www.llrc-accll.ca/ of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education (CSSE). L&L is an interdisciplinary journal that publishes research related to literacy and language education from pre-school to adulthood. We welcome submissions that include original research, critical reviews of research, and conceptual analyses that represent diverse research approaches, theoretical perspectives, methodologies, and modes of inquiry. We do not publish book reviews, class projects, term papers, previously published works, or works under consideration elsewhere.

Language & Literacy publishes two regular bilingual (English/French) issues each year (Spring/Summer, Fall/Winter). We also typically publish two special issues per year: one French language issue and one issue based on the LLRC pre-conference at CSSE. Submissions should normally be between 6000-8000 words in length and must include an abstract of approximately 50-100 words.

We welcome proposals for other special issues. To propose a special issue, please submit to the Editor-in-Chief a detailed description of the theme and potential authors and topics. Timelines from submission of manuscripts to publication of the special issue should be 12 months or less. Please note that guest editors for special issues handle all correspondence between authors and reviewers. When final manuscripts are copy edited and ready for publication, they are forwarded to the journal’s editorial assistant for formatting and uploading to the Language and Literacy website. We ask that all special issues include an introduction from the guest editors.

Contributions to Language & Literacy may be republished and translated in other volumes without charge or without seeking L&L’s permission provided that 12 months have elapsed since the publication of the manuscript and that due acknowledgement of the original publication is made.

Indexed in ProQuest and EBSCO,  Language and Literacy was founded in 1999 by Ingrid Johnston and Jill McClay of the University of Alberta, and by Rebecca Luce-Kapler and Sylvia Pantaleo of Queens University.
